Dr. Ames earned a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Florida and is board certified in Clinical Health Psychology. She is currently the psychologist for the Bariatric Center at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida and holds an academic rank of assistant professor of psychology in the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. Dr. Ames clinical practice focuses on patients seeking treatment for obesity including bariatric surgery, very low calorie diets, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Her research interests include developing cognitive behavioral interventions to minimize weight regain following weight loss through surgical and nonsurgical treatments as well as metabolic adaptation to weight change with large weight loss.
