motivational interviewing health coach instructor Stephen Q. Simpson, MDDistinguished Scholar in Critical Care Medicine, Professor of Medicine, and Director of three medical intensive care units at the University of Kansas, Steven Simpson, MD has led research into all facets of sepsis-from molecular to CQI. He is also been an advocate for change declaring that many cases of amputation, death, and long-term disability can be avoided by more aggressive treatment of infections and sepsis. He founded the Midwest Critical Care Collaborative, the Kansas Sepsis Project, and STOP Sepsis, a statewide program to improve sepsis outcomes across a continuum of care that included patients—many of which may not understand sepsis signs and symptoms, and why sepsis is a medical emergency.
