Kristen Chasteen, MD

Dr. Kristen Chasteen, MDDr. Kristen Chasteen has been a senior staff physician at Henry Ford Hospital in the section of palliative medicine since 2012 and the Program Director for the Henry Ford Hospital/Wayne State University hospice and palliative medicine fellowship since 2015.

She spends her clinical time doing palliative medicine consultation in the hospital and in the outpatient clinic. One of Dr. Chasteen’s main interests is improving the way that we teach clinicians to communicate with patients with serious illness.

Dr. Chasteen also is one of the leaders of the CLEAR Conversations Program at Henry Ford, which is a comprehensive program to teach communication skills to clinicians of all levels using a combination of simulation workshops and bed-side teaching. She received training from the non-profit organization, VitalTalk, which specializes in developing and facilitating advanced communication skills courses and she continues to participate in their work at the national level.

She is also a member of the Henry Ford Bioethics Committee.

Dr. Chasteen is a graduate of Williams College and the University of Michigan Medical School. Her residency in Internal Medicine and her fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine were both at University of California – San Francisco.

She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
